Learn about Sarah Mattie, your new content writer and editor

With a first and last name that both have multiple “correct” spellings, plus a last name often mistaken for my first, I learned early that words can be tricky! Maybe that’s why I became a language nerd — and now I help others make sense of it all.

I entered the digital content world in 2019. Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to:

  • Create content about higher education and careers

  • Edit in-depth medical articles

  • Conduct heavy research on topics like eating disorders, elder abuse, medical devices, trucking statistics…the list goes on!

  • Write blog posts

  • Become a personal finance subject matter expert

  • Manage freelancers

  • And more!

No matter what kind of content I work on, I always keep the person on the other side of the screen in mind. That’s a real human being with hopes, fears, and goals. They’re reading my words for a reason. How can I help them?

Before diving into content writing and editing, I was a teacher — so I know a thing or two about breaking down complex topics! I taught middle school English and theatre, ran after-school programs, and created curricula for a small private school and the second-largest school district in Kansas.

And don’t let my bachelor’s in theatre fool you: I’m not about the drama. In fact, I was a stage management major. Stage managers truly run the show, managing schedules, communicating with internal stakeholders, and managing day-to-day activities. Quick thinking and patience are key.

So, who is Sarah Mattie, really?

Outside of work, I’m into rockhounding, horror movies, cats, live theatre, and (re)learning Spanish. I rarely turn down an opportunity to DIY a home repair project. My philosophy is “If I can’t break it more, I’m going for it!” I turned my office from a very 90s bedroom into a place full of colorful and eclectic joy. (You can see a bit of that on my first blog post.) Halloween is my favorite holiday, and I go all-out decorating for it every year.

I’m also full of “fun facts.” However, they’re of varying degrees of funness… (And I checked with Merriam-Webster Dictionary before writing “funness.” It’s a gray area. But you have to live in the gray sometimes!).

Let’s talk about your content (or fun fact) needs!

Answering a frequently asked question: What name do I go by?

I genuinely don’t mind if you call me Sarah, Mattie, or Sarah-Mattie.

I’ve happily answered to all three for years, so pick whichever you like — or whichever makes it easier to differentiate between all the first-name Sarahs/Saras and Matties/Maddies/Mattys you probably work with!
